Monochrome VS Colour

14 Aug

This is one of those dresses where you don’t need to do anything with, just throw it on and be out. I love these kinds of dresses especially now that I have stepped out of my simplicity phase.

I took the afternoon to go to the local park and this was just a perfect throw-on-and-still-look-good. Aren’t jeans and a tee a throw on too? Yes they are but I have always believed that you look so much more put together and effortless with a dress that just does all the work for you.

This summer, I’ve been into printed dresses more than ever but this one is my loudest so far.

Play it Safe Sometimes

23 Jul

Even when it comes to summer I am sometimes tempted to throw on my pop-to-the-corner-shop outfit and sometimes it is a disaster…but I’m still not bothered. In this outfit post I have tried to keep things easy but not looking lazy as I have had a lot of trips to the corner shop and as you can imagine, a girl likes to feel special every now and then. I decided I wasn’t going to let my laziness get in the way of looking, well, polished but still not look like I have tried too hard for a walk down my local.

1) Finding a top that looks simple but has some lace detailing, frills or trims add that extra oompf to your lazy-day-but-noone-knows-it and no one will really know it.

2) Minimal make-up is my philosophy and always has been but sometimes I have taken minimal to none at all. This time, I put on my favourite pink lipstick that I know suits me whatever the weather and a few brushes with the mascara and it only takes 30 seconds and makes such a difference.

3) The studs I am wearing are studs I have left for a while as punishment for wearing them every single day when I have countless pairs still in packaging dying to be worn. Today, I decided that it is about what you’re ‘comfortable’ with and what you ‘know’ will make you look good when you’re in a rush or not looking to make much effort.

Image

The heatwave has subsided but it is still slightly warm out so I decided to be safe with a pair of my most loved dark-wash jeans, sandals and a plain lace top.

Even the tiny clips add further detail.

All Prepped Up | Outfit of the Day

I’ve been feeling a bit boyish lately, actually for a very long time now. I was always a dress-girl but don’t get me wrong I still love wearing dresses and especially in the winter since I can throw it on with leggings and a chunky cardigan.

I have been wearing shirts and sweaters with jeans A LOT. Maybe it’s been due to the rise of the coloured and patterned skinnies that are still around during these cold months. I just can’t get enough of my jeans, I always hated jeans and once upon a time only owned two pairs! TWO pairs! And that wasn’t long ago.

Today I put on this Gingham Check Shirt with Bright Pink skinny jeans. As well as boyish this shirt makes me feel a bit preppy. I thought I should brighten up this look with wearing these jeans again. I’ve been wearing it with my navy jumpers and the contrast is so daring but it looks great and I think it’s a nice twist to the boyfriend fit shirt. I bought this a size up without trying it on as I do with all shirt and I kind of regret it since it does fit a big baggy on me.

And just to calm it down I wore plain black pallet flats.

This look is a bit daring to pull off and I am nervous to put it up and out there but I am excited to know what you think of it. Hope you like!

Sweaters are Boring!

17 Sep

It is just the beginning of Autumn and I want to stay looking and feeling my best but the cold mornings just make me want to throw on a warm sweater and a pair of jeans without even thinking about it. In this post I am going to show you how I spiced up my sweater this cold morning…

ImageIn the photo above I am wearing a striped navy and grey knit sweater (Hollister £34) with a pair of dark washed (New Look) super skinny jeans. This is what I would normally wear when I have just rolled out of bed on a cold morning but this morning, on impulse, I grabbed my bright pink skinnies and threw them on with this sweater and thought ‘Wow that actually really works!’

Image

I bought these jeans (Topshop Motto Kristen Jeans £40) during the summer and it worked really well with my summer tops but I never thought of incorporating this into my Autumn wardrobe at all until today. These jeans really brighten me up both literally and emotionally, I feel so much more happier wearing my bright colours, and they also brighten up the sweater.

I’m still so in love with my coloured denim that I can’t let Autumn take them away from me and this is one of the ways I am wearing my bright colours against the swarm of greys and blacks I am going to be surrounded by this Autumn/Winter. This is why it’s so great to experiment with the pieces you already have, now I can get wear out of my coloured jeans and feel great during the chilly months.

To calm the look down a bit I wore this with a tan coloured pair of ballet flats.

If you’re not daring enough to try this look out but still want to make a bit of effort on your sweater-jeans outfit you could wear coloured flats instead and turn up the jeans at the end to create a really relaxed but thought about look…

That Dress I Will Never Wear!

2 Sep

I have had a late Wardrobe clear-out to put in my new Autumn gear, I say late because I usually do this at the start-mid August. I’m an early-bird when it comes to clothes. I am so excited about Autumn/Winter 2012 and cannot wait to try out some warm Autumn inspired nail art to keep you feeling warm in the coming chilly months.

I have had to get rid of a lot of things since they won’t fit in my Wardrobe with all the new stuff I have bought. I’m one of those people who only wear their few new pieces. I know I know it’s so bad but I cannot help it.

During this clear-out I rediscovered so many pieces of clothing and surprisingly I am excited to be  wearing them from now on. I also realised I had a lot of items of clothing that were brand new condition that I never got to wear and probably never will. So I decided to start an eBay with all my unwanted unworn and brand new clothes. It was all fun taking the photos, I love capturing great photos for my blog and now for my eBay. Hope you like my pieces.

Check them out here first!

Image

I bought this because it’s pretty and pretty to look at when I open my wardrobe but never wore it. I hope that it can go to a new wardrobe and look pretty on the person wearing it. This piece is perfect for a special occasion, I love how the fabric just drapes elegantly into a bubble-hem.

Image

This was mean for Autumn but isn’t really my style. But if I was this top’s style, I’d wear this with wet-look leggings and studded chelsea boots and maybe a biker jacket.

Image

Oh my florals! I have so many floral dresses they are uncountable, and since this is my unworn one and still in brand new retail-sellable condition I decided to to put this up for sale. But reluctantly of course, I love my florals too much.

Image

I don’t feel comfortable wearing ones-shoulder dresses or anything showing me off really so I decided to give this one away too. I love that it’s studded though, studs are absolutely perfect for A/W 2012!

Image

Ah the lace shrug! I felt this a bit revealing too! I don’t wear black so I don’t even know why I bought it, same went for the studded one-shoulder face dress.

Image

This is a Bandeau jump-suit. This will see you through day and night. The full leg length elongates your legs making you appear taller and slimmer. Wear under a cardigan and with flat ballet pumps/sandals in the day, and throw on a pair of glamorous heels for the night and maybe the lace shrug above.

And what’s more, all prices are negotiable! Check it all out here!

DIY: A Chambray Denim Shirt

2 Jun

Image

I bought this shirt a couple of years ago, and since I have been loving the top-button-done-up and denim trend all season I decided to give this shirt discreet ones. Instead of sewing on a the spare button I got with this I used a metal hook so that it doesn’t cause much damage or look like there was a button there once before if I ever decide to remove them in future. I usually wore this with vest tops underneath and all buttons open, but now I’m going to try to pull this off on its own.

If you have a similar shirt , you could try this too…

Image

I put on the hook on the inside of the right inside of the collar.

Image

When stitching on the hook on the inside of the collar you should always make sure to not let the stitching reach through all layers of the fabric or you’d be left with a visible knot!

ImageImage

Instead of using the metal one, I decided to make my own thread hoop for the hook to clasp onto. This should be done on the outside of the left side of the collar.

Image

If you ever want to do this, you should make sure your thread hoop is very strong. And this stitching helped me achieve this…

ImageImage

Image

I did the same again halfway down from the collar and the next button…

Image

To figure out how far you should do this you can either measure or do what I did…

Image

…fold it in half by putting the hook against the next button-hole. If this picture isn’t clear…

Image

And here’s how it looks all buttoned and hooked up…

Image

Image

Style Tip: Since this shirt is very long on me, almost reaching my knees, if you have a similar one you could wear it on its own teamed with a pair of bright statement heels.

The Hidden Height Booster!

23 Mar

Image

I was browsing River Island yesterday and I came across these High-Tops and thought and wanted to report about it straight away! This has a hidden heel, I have always thought that wedges or hidden platforms sort of did the job. I love the idea of a hidden heel. The idea of no one knowing you’re not as tall as you look is exciting. It’s like being able to lie about being tall.

I am already tall, but I can never ever be separated from my heels, and I think I want these high-tops myself – but they’d have to be pink. They’re big this season and have made it to music sensation Lana Del Rey’s feet too.

Of course, they are a bit on the boyish side, but I like a twist from my girliness now and then. Let me know what you think of these.
